Perimenopause Counselling for Women

When you don't quite feel like yourself anymore

Perimenopause can be a confusing time.

You may notice changes in your mood, anxiety, confidence, concentration or ability to cope — and wonder why things that once felt manageable suddenly feel much harder.

Perhaps you're more emotional than you used to be, your mind feels constantly busy, or you're struggling with a level of anxiety and overwhelm that doesn't feel like you.

And if you've spent years being the person who holds everything together, it can be particularly difficult to admit that you're struggling.

When everything feels harder

Perimenopause can happen alongside a busy and demanding stage of life.

You may be juggling work, children, relationships, ageing parents and all the everyday responsibilities that seem to fall on you.

At the same time, you may be experiencing:

  • increased anxiety or emotional overwhelm

  • difficulty concentrating or "brain fog"

  • changes in confidence and self-esteem

  • irritability or feeling more emotionally sensitive

  • exhaustion and difficulty coping

  • changes in how you see yourself

  • feeling disconnected from the person you used to be

You may find yourself thinking:

"Why can't I cope like I used to?"

Perimenopause and ADHD

For women with ADHD, perimenopause can bring an additional layer of difficulty.

You may already have spent years developing ways to manage your ADHD, masking difficulties and working hard to keep everything together.

Changes during perimenopause can make existing challenges feel more noticeable or harder to manage.

If you've discovered ADHD later in life, you may also be trying to understand yourself at the same time as navigating significant changes in your body, emotions and identity.

Counselling can give you space to explore all of this without judgement.

You don't have to figure it all out on your own

Perimenopause isn't just about physical symptoms.

It can affect how you feel about yourself, your relationships, your confidence and your sense of who you are.

Counselling can't replace medical advice or treatment, but it can provide a safe space to talk openly about what you're experiencing and explore the emotional impact of this stage of life.

We can look at what has changed, what you're struggling with and what you need now — rather than simply expecting yourself to carry on as before.

How I work

My approach is warm, down-to-earth and trauma-informed.

You don't need to have everything worked out before you come to counselling.

We'll work together to understand what's happening for you, explore the patterns that may be making things harder and find ways forward that feel manageable.

You are allowed to make space for yourself

You may have spent years putting everyone else first.

Perhaps this is a time to stop and ask yourself what you need.

If you're struggling with anxiety, overwhelm, ADHD, confidence or simply don't feel like yourself anymore, counselling can give you somewhere to be heard and understood.
