Counselling and support
ADHD COUNSELLING AND SUPPORT - Are you struggling to make sense of a recent diagnosis? Do you suspect you are ADHD? Are you feeling overwhelmed and burnt out, exhausted from constantly trying to keep up in a neurotypical world? Have you noticed a change since having children? Send me a message or email and I will see if I can help.
I was diagnosed with ADHD later in life but always suspected for many years there was something else going on. Having children can be a trigger point for many people, the sleepless nights and the overstimulation, perhaps even having a neurodiverse child yourself.
Whilst ADHD can be a superpower it also holds its own specific trauma. I found myself, not only feeling a huge sense of validation from the diagnosis but also a huge sense of grief and a feeling of “what now”?
Years of ‘Masking’ can take its toll, as can years of feeling like the crazy one, the one that’s too emotional, the one that can never quite keep up, does this sound familiar?
I am passionate about supporting adults with ADHD and have helped many clients over the years understand their diagnosis as well as manage their symptoms. Often ADHD is co-morbid with Trauma, anxiety, and depression.
I have found a holistic approach is effective with clients who present with these issues.
The approach in these sessions is slightly more solution-focused and will not only incorporate traditional counselling methods but A trauma-informed approach also underpins the work. I will look at lifestyle and routine. Addiction is a common coping mechanism in adults with ADHD, as is a chaotic approach to daily routine. Negative self-talk is deeply ingrained, and mindfulness is felt to be impossible. Gently exploring how all these factors are impacting self-esteem and life choices is vital to managing the ups and downs of ADHD.
What will the first session be like?
The first in-person session with me will be a brief history and a look at specific issues and goals that you have. The work will then be tailored to your specific needs, goals and presenting challenges.
