Leonie Holm
es Counselling
Welcome! I am an experienced and accredited counsellor based in Colchester who truly gets it! I work sensitively with adults struggling with childhood Trauma, ADHD, and Anxiety. You won't find me suited and booted with a notebook, but more likely a friendly smile, wearing trainers, and a cup of tea in hand.
I came to therapy work, through my own journey with trauma, ADHD, parenthood, and all the colourful events that life throws at you. I show up as myself, hopefully someone you can relate to and feel comfortable with. I will never leave you lost, sitting in silence and feeling analysed.
I have extensive experience working with adults coping with the challenges of ADHD in later life, and the anxiety and trauma that often go alongside. My ADHD clients described being nervous about fidgeting, rambling, and interpreting in sessions, sound familiar? Don’t worry, you will be in the right place! I pride myself on being able to keep up with the fastest of talkers. You can swear and fidget to your heart's content, we can laugh and cry together, and hopefully work towards some real change.
Shame dies when stories get told in safe places
Together we can try and make sense of the past and how it’s affecting your present.
You are not alone, and I would like to help; your feelings do matter.

How are you feeling?
Have you reached a point where you sense you just can’t carry on feeling this way? Maybe it’s a recent breakup or a build-up of feelings that’s just all become too much to cope with on your own.
Perhaps you are carrying a silent pain that you wish the people around you could see.
Maybe you are tired of not feeling understood by those closest to you.
Are you fed up of always feeling like the odd one out, the one who can’t seem to cope with life?
I wonder if you have lost your trust in others, and reaching out for help often feels impossible.
Maybe its ok to put yourself first for once…….
I work sensitively with adults struggling with the aftermath of childhood trauma and years of undiagnosed ADHD and anxiety.
This means simply, that we would work together to try and make sense of your early relationships and experiences in childhood that you feel are still troubling you today.
What this might look like for you?
Early experiences of abuse and neglect continue to shape the way your family interacts with each other, Perhaps you are the black sheep? the one who got used to being treated differently?
Was there a narcissistic parent who controlled everyone in the family and continues to do so?
Did abuse change your relationships with your siblings?
Are you an adult trying to function but just feel like a lost child, are you stuck in the past? or have you blocked out the past so much that you feel scared as to what happened?
Have you always had to look after your parent and feel like you never really had a childhood?
You deserve to begin the journey to feeling more at peace. There is a reason you are struggling to cope!
“I always knew that my childhood was something I tried to block out. I was scared that if I ever tried to talk to someone about how unhappy it was, it would break me. I could tell from the start Leonie just got it and instantly put me at ease. I didn’t have to go over the gory details unless i wanted to, or felt ready, and even then Leonie made sure we explored memories in a safe way. I spent so long drinking too much, putting up with bad relationships and having no boundaries with people. What I learnt in therapy was life-changing. I realised so much of how I was self-sabotaging was because of what I had seen and experienced as a kid. It was like the more I learnt about myself, the clearer things started to become. I laughed, I cried, some weeks were really tough and others I would get those light bulb moments. Give it a try! you won’t regret it, I really do feel so much lighter”

I listen, empathize and gently try to understand what it feels like to be you. I will help you to explore your issues but never push you to talk about things that you are not ready for.
I can help you gain insight into how past relationships are affecting you today and playing out in your everyday life, helping you to foster a new sense of empowerment.
I am a warm, relatable person and my style of therapy is collaborative so I won’t just sit in silence. I will gently challenge and help you to explore your thoughts and feelings in a non judgmental safe way.
If you think you would like therapy with me, then please send a text, email or give me a call. I understand committing to therapy takes courage, so I offer a free 15 min phone consultation in which you can give me a brief outline of why you would like counselling and ask any questions that you might have.
